Plumber in Monument
Palmer Divide, 7,100 feet, between the metros.
Monument sits at 7,100 feet on the Palmer Divide, the high ground that separates the Denver metro watershed from the Pueblo and Springs watersheds. The community has a historic downtown along Monument Creek and a significant growth corridor that has expanded along the I-25 corridor north toward the Denver metro. Monument attracts residents who want the high-altitude environment between the two major metros, and the housing stock reflects that appeal: established neighborhoods near the historic core and newer large-lot development spreading east and west from the Palmer Divide ridge.
Being both a master plumber and a licensed plumbing contractor means one person owns the whole job in Monument. When a pipe repair opens a wall in an older downtown home, Wes patches it. When a water heater replacement in a newer Triview home involves a gas line check, he handles that too.
Elevation is not a detail up here, it changes the equipment. Gas appliances burn differently in thinner air, and a water heater or boiler installed at 7,100 feet needs to be rated or derated for altitude to fire correctly and vent safely. Units picked off a shelf without regard for that run rich, soot the burner, and short-cycle. This is exactly the kind of thing that gets missed when the person doing the install is working off a spec sheet instead of experience above six thousand feet. Wes sizes and sets water heaters and boilers for the altitude they are actually going to run at.
Being both a master plumber and a licensed plumbing contractor means one person owns the whole job. On the larger lots around Monument that is worth real money, because a job out here often touches more than one trade: a wall opened, a crawlspace accessed, a gas line rerun, then everything put back. One person, one schedule, one number responsible for the result. Recent work is in the gallery.
- Drain & sewer cleaning

Palmer Divide altitude and Palmer Lake watershed water
High altitude, Front Range water, and a mix of housing eras.
Monument sits above the Palmer Lake reservoir system and draws from the Front Range water supply. At 7,100 feet, the freeze season runs longer than Colorado Springs below and freeze risk is higher. Homes in the older downtown neighborhoods have original pipe that has been through decades of Palmer Divide winters. Newer construction in Triview and the surrounding developments has builder-grade infrastructure at its first service interval. Wes services both housing generations with specific knowledge of what each era carries for plumbing issues.
Freeze exposure is the defining plumbing problem on the Palmer Divide. The season starts earlier and ends later than it does down in Colorado Springs or up in the Denver metro, and the swings are hard: sun and forty degrees in the afternoon, well below freezing overnight, wind most of the time. Wind is what actually splits pipes. It pulls heat out of a crawlspace or a wall cavity fast enough that a line which survived every previous winter finally lets go. The failures are predictable: hose bibs left charged with a hose attached, garage and exterior wall runs, and crawlspace supply with vents left open. Handling those in the fall is cheap. Handling them in February is not. See pipe insulation and frozen pipe work.
Then there are the well properties. Plenty of homes on acreage around Monument and out toward Black Forest are on private wells rather than a municipal system, and that changes the whole picture inside the house. Well water carries whatever the local geology puts in it, commonly iron, manganese, sediment, and real hardness. Iron stains fixtures rust orange, sediment chews up valve seats and fill valves, and hardness scales a water heater fast. A pressure tank and pump that are out of adjustment also produce symptoms people misread as a plumbing problem. Wes works on the house side of well systems: filtration, softeners, pressure issues, and the fixture damage that untreated water causes over time.

One pro, the whole job
Every plumbing need in Monument covered.
Monument homeowners have one number for plumbing. Water heaters, drain cleaning, leak detection, repipes, fixture installs, gas line work, and full remodels. Call (303) 883-9075 or reach out here.
Two jobs come up often enough in Monument to call out. Outdoor plumbing takes a beating at this elevation, so hose bib replacement and exterior line work are steady fall and spring calls. And on the larger properties, gas line runs to a shop, a detached garage, a generator or an outdoor kitchen are common, which is work that has to be sized, pressure tested and permitted properly rather than improvised. Monument sits inside our El Paso County coverage.
Around town
Where we work in Monument.
We cover all of Monument, from the historic downtown near Monument Creek to the newer developments in Triview and the Santa Fe Trail communities pushing toward Black Forest.
The service profile shifts as you move across town. The older downtown blocks bring aging supply pipe and repairs on houses that have been through a lot of Palmer Divide winters. Triview and the newer developments are at their first real service interval, which means original water heaters aging out, builder-grade angle stops that seize the first time anybody tries to close one, and fixture replacements. Out on the larger lots toward Black Forest it is well systems, water treatment, gas runs to outbuildings, and freeze protection on longer, more exposed pipe runs.

Questions we get in Monument.
Does altitude really matter when replacing a water heater up here?
Yes. Gas appliances burn differently in thinner air, and at 7,100 feet a unit needs to be rated or properly derated for altitude to fire and vent correctly. Installed wrong, it runs rich, soots the burner and short-cycles. It is not an upsell, it is how the appliance is supposed to be set. We size and set units for the elevation they will actually run at.
Why did my pipes freeze this winter and not last winter?
Wind, most of the time. A still night at ten degrees is survivable for a line in a wall cavity. The same night with a hard wind on the Palmer Divide strips heat out of that cavity fast enough to split the pipe. Open crawlspace vents and a hose left on an outdoor spigot are the other two usual causes. All three are fixable in the fall.
We are on a well. What plumbing problems does that cause inside the house?
Untreated well water is usually hard and often carries iron, manganese and sediment. Iron leaves orange staining on fixtures, sediment wears out valve seats and toilet fill valves, and hardness scales the water heater quickly. Getting the water tested tells you what you actually need instead of guessing. See water filtration.
My well water pressure fluctuates. Is that a plumbing problem or the pump?
Often it is the pressure tank losing its air charge or a pressure switch out of adjustment, which makes the pump cycle rapidly and the pressure swing at the fixtures. Sometimes it is a clogged filter or scaled supply line inside the house. We check the house side and tell you honestly when the problem is out at the well and needs a pump specialist.
Do I need a permit for plumbing work in Monument?
Water heater replacement, gas line installation, repipes, sewer work and anything that relocates a drain require permitting and inspection. Fixture swaps and straight repairs generally do not. Gas line work in particular should never be done without it, since it has to be pressure tested and signed off before the line is put into service.
Can you run a gas line to a detached shop or outdoor kitchen?
Yes. That is common on the larger lots around here. The line has to be sized for the total load, run and protected correctly for the distance, pressure tested, and permitted. Guessed-at sizing is the usual mistake, and it shows up later as appliances that will not hold output when more than one is running. See gas line installation.
Do you handle the finish work after the plumbing, or is that on me?
Wes is a licensed general contractor as well as a master plumber, so walls opened for a repair get closed, and a bath or kitchen project runs from rough-in through the finished fixtures with one person accountable. On acreage properties where scheduling a second trade means another trip out, that saves real time.
What do I do first if a pipe bursts overnight?
Shut the main off, then open a low faucet to bleed the pressure out of the system so it stops pushing water. Then call (303) 883-9075. We answer 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you are on a well, killing power to the pump also stops the supply, which is worth knowing before you need it.
